About Us

Jenny's Nursey has charitable status, and was formed by the WRVS in 1970. We are now members of the Norfolk Early Years Suport Network, which is branch of the nationwide Playgroup Network. As a charity, the nursery is energetic in its fund-raising efforts. The staff, committee and parents all take an active role in raising money for equipment and resources to ensure it's continued success.

Staff

All our staff have been carefully appointed. They hold relevant qualifications and have CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checks as well as holding first aid certificates. They supervise the day-to-day running of the group, provide a stimulating caring environment and encourage all aspects of the development of the children attending the group. They are also willing to provide help, advice and support to the parents.

Jenny's Nursery School operates a key worker system. This gives parents a named person who they can contact to discuss how their child is progressing at nursery and any other issues and concerns relating to their child. Although the key worker is responsible for keeping records on their children, all staff will be equally involved with helping them to build relationships and develop learning skills.

Jenny Berry is our Playleader and Manager, and has been with the group since joining in November 1984. Jenny is qualified with a Level 3 Diploma in Pre-School Practice and also holds a current First Aid certificate, as well as being CRB checked.

Lucy Bloomfield is our Assistant Playleader/Manager, and joined us in January 1997. She also has the required Level 3 Diploma in Pre-School Practice and also holds a certificate in Makaton (sign language for pre-literate children).

Mel Bush is one of our Nursery Assistants, and has been with us since January 1999. She holds a Level 2 Certificate in Pre-School Practice.

Penny Payne is also a Nursery Assistant, and holds a Level 2 CPP.

In addition to the Playleaders/Managers and Nursery Assistants, parents are welcome to help out at some sessions. If you are interested please speak to Jenny or Lucy.

Ofsted and Policies

Jenny's Nursery School is registered with Ofsted, whose last inspection report (from September 2007) noted that: "Staff have good knowledge of how children learn and a sound understanding of the early learning goals and the stepping stones within them. Staff are interested in what children say and do and manage children's behaviour well. The sessions are balanced to enable children to experience group times, outside play and to pursue their own interests."

We are fully insured and are allowed a maximum of twenty children per session between the ages of two and five years old, and have been accepted to receive free nursery places for all three and four year olds from the term after their third birthday. Our constitution is Playgroup Network-based, and we have adopted a set of policies which lay out the standards on which the nursery is run. These have been approved by Ofsted and cover the following subjects:

Admissions and waiting lists, fees and charges, equal opportunities, child protection, promoting acceptable behaviour, health hygiene and safety, recruitment of staff, special needs, special education needs, responsibilities of staff in an emergency, confidentiality, complaints procedure for parents and carers, contact of employment, disciplinary and grievance for staff, job descriptions, staff induction procedure, employment, walks, emergency closure, regular use of volunteers.

The Committee

Jenny's Nursery School is managed by a committee of up to twelve people. The committee is made up of a group of current and former parents who take on the responsibility of administrating the charity and providing the support that the group needs to be able to function. The committee employs the staff and is responsible for the policies, the accounting and any other major decisions about the running of the group. Open meetings are held every half term.
